Osteopathic Practice Standards Pocket Guide[20444]

The General Osteopathic Council’s updated Osteopathic Practice Standards come into effect today,  1 September 2019, replacing the Osteopathic Practice Standards (2012).  Please see attached a copy of the newly launched updated Osteopathic Practice Standards (OPS) pocket guide. The pocket guide sets out the 4 themes of the OPS and all 29 Standards for easy reference.

These Standards were updated through a process of extensive engagement with osteopaths and patients, and with a Stakeholder Reference Group which included the Institute of Osteopathy, the National Council for Osteopathic Research and the Osteopathic Alliance. The Standards have been brought up to date and edited to make them clearer, more accessible and easier to engage with as a framework to support practice.

The updated OPS also provide further detail on important areas of osteopathic practice including boundaries (emotional and professional as well as sexual), communication and consent, and the duty of candour.

You can access the Standards, together with the accompanying guidance, quickly and easily on your mobile phone, tablet or PC at: standards.osteopathy.org.uk. A PDF version of the full Osteopathic Practice Standards document is also available at: osteopathy.org.uk/updated-ops.
